Arsenal complete £34m Tzolis signing, pursue Rogers next

Arsenal have finalized the transfer of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34 million, securing the 24-year-old Greek winger as a direct replacement for Leandro Trossard, who departed to Turkish side Besiktas for £15.3–17 million earlier in the week. The fee represents a Belgian Pro League transfer record. Tzolis, previously with Norwich City, recorded 17 goals and 23 assists in 36 league appearances for Brugge last season and is valued for his versatility as both a winger and attacking midfielder, as well as his injury resilience.

With Tzolis confirmed, Arsenal have intensified their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, an England international and the club's stated top transfer target. Rogers, who was UEFA's Europa League Player of the Season after helping Villa to the competition's final, is expected to become Arsenal's next major acquisition once his participation in the World Cup concludes. However, Aston Villa have signalled strong resistance to selling, with reports valuing Rogers at £130 million—significantly above Arsenal's current record transfer spending (£105 million for Declan Rice in 2023).

Arsenal's summer recruitment under sporting director Andrea Berta reflects a broader squad overhaul following their Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Tzolis is the club's third confirmed signing, joining goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds and the permanent acquisition of defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for £34.5 million after a loan spell. The club has also been scouting Georgian Under-21 midfielder Andria Bartishvili, and continues to monitor targets including Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez and Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes, as manager Mikel Arteta seeks to strengthen the forward line and midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.

Villa's recent transfers have included the sale of midfielder Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and ongoing negotiations over left-back Lucas Digne to Paris Saint-Germain, whilst they have simultaneously strengthened their own squad with signings including Brazilian midfielder João Gomes from Wolves (£38 million) and Swiss defender Johan Manzambi from Freiburg (£50 million club record). Rogers signed a six-year contract extension with Villa in November 2025, tying him to the club until summer 2031.
