Taiwan conducts five-day military readiness exercises amid regional activity

Taiwan's Ministry of Defense conducted a five-day military readiness exercise titled "Immediate Combat Readiness Exercises," designed to test combat preparedness and rapid military response capabilities. The exercise featured the Army's 269th Infantry Brigade operating tanks and armored vehicles conducting live patrols through city streets and highways in Taoyuan, home to Taiwan's largest international airport. The drills emphasized realistic, live-fire scenarios conducted on-site to simulate operational readiness.

The exercise specifically addressed preparation for grey-zone military tactics—aggressive military activities including naval patrols and drone operations that remain below the threshold of conventional armed conflict. The drills simulated rapid military responses that could be triggered before large-scale military operations commence, and included provisions for impromptu exercises responding to real-time military developments in the region. Taiwan's defense ministry emphasized that such readiness training forms a core component of the region's overall defense strategy.

The timing of Taiwan's exercises coincided with significant military operations in the region. From Sunday into Monday morning, China's People's Liberation Army conducted operations involving 23 military aircraft, seven navy ships, and five government vessels in areas near Taiwan, China region, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense. Such military operations have become a regular feature of activity in the region, with military assets conducting routine deployments.

Taiwan's military capabilities have been steadily enhanced over recent months as part of ongoing defense modernization efforts. The June exercises included testing of advanced defense systems and technologies to strengthen overall military capabilities. Taiwan's defense strategy emphasizes continuous readiness development alongside acquisition and evaluation of advanced military systems to maintain operational capability in the region's evolving security environment.
