Quick Facts
- Three-match T20I series
- India seeking first win under Iyer's captaincy
- Squad rotation with new and returning players
- Iyer emphasizing present-focused approach and fearless cricket
- Shreyas Iyer (India captain)

India's T20I team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, begins a three-match series against Zimbabwe on 23 July in Harare, seeking to reverse a difficult start to his tenure. Iyer's first two assignments as captain—a 2-0 series defeat to Ireland and a 4-0 loss to England—have left India searching for their first win under his leadership. All three matches will be held at Harare Sports Club, with matches scheduled for 23, 25, and 26 July at 4:30 PM Indian Standard Time.
Iyer has emphasized a present-focused approach and urged the squad to play without fear of failure despite recent scrutiny. "We need to adapt as soon as we can. That's what we failed to do in Ireland. That was a reality check," he said ahead of the opening match. The captain acknowledged the challenges of swift acclimatization, with the team having only one training session after arriving directly from England. He also stressed the importance of unity and team performance over individual success.
The squad includes several debutants and recent call-ups, reflecting a squad rotation after India's disappointing overseas tours. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old sensation who became India's youngest international cricketer during the England tour, will be closely watched. Sooryavanshi has a personal connection to Harare, having starred in India's Under-19 World Cup victory at the same venue in January, scoring 175 off 80 balls against England in the final. Other new faces include Yash Thakur and Ashok Sharma, earning maiden T20I call-ups, while Prabhsimran Singh is also in line for his international debut. Mayank Yadav returns after a two-year absence from international cricket.
Vikram Rathour was absent from the tour, with VVS Laxman assuming interim coaching duties. Iyer, who has overcome multiple serious injuries including a back injury in 2023 and a spleen laceration in October 2025, described his recovery as mentally strengthening. "When you overcome the injury phase, mentally it makes you very positive," he noted. The skipper praised Zimbabwe as a competitive side with several IPL-experienced players.
India's T20I record since winning the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup remains winless through two series. The squad includes Shreyas Iyer (captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi. Matches will be broadcast on United8 Sports Channels in India.

Why This Matters
India's T20 team enters a critical three-match series after two consecutive series defeats (2–0 to Ireland, 4–0 to England) under new captain Shreyas Iyer. A win here is measurably significant for team morale, player development (the squad includes several debutants and a 15-year-old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi), and establishing confidence ahead of future international fixtures. The series also tests India's adaptation to conditions and squad rotation strategy following recent overseas struggles.
