Dubois Retains WBO Title with Devastating Second-Round Stoppage of Wardley

Daniel Dubois retained his WBO heavyweight title with a dominant second-round stoppage of Fabio Wardley at London's O2 Arena on October 17, 2026, extending his unbeaten streak and cementing his status as Britain's leading heavyweight.

Dubois floored Wardley with a straight right cross just 17 seconds into the opening round, immediately establishing control. Despite Wardley's survival to the bell, he was overwhelmed by sustained pressure throughout round one, with trainer Ben Davison standing ready to withdraw him. The challenger could not recover in round two, where another relentless assault—featuring hooks and power punches driven into the corner—forced Davison to throw in the towel after two minutes and 21 seconds of the round. A sell-out crowd of 19,000 at the O2 witnessed the decisive contest.

This rematch followed their May encounter in Manchester, where Dubois had climbed off the canvas twice to win via 11th-round TKO in a competitive bout. The October contest proved far more one-sided, with Wardley unable to mount any effective offence despite his earlier success in forcing an immediate rematch. Sources noted concerns that Wardley may have returned too quickly after the punishment absorbed in May, when he suffered significant swelling and bloodying.

Dubois extended his professional record to 24 wins—23 by knockout—and three defeats. Post-fight, Dubois stated: "I had bad intentions from the beginning. Our back was against the wall first time. We just had to go out there and show we meant business tonight." Wardley, suffering his second career loss in 23 fights, reflected: "It's never fun to lose. I've always thrown myself in with the biggest, toughest, meanest guys around, there's no shame in testing yourself against the best."

The victory reinforces Dubois' standing among the world's leading active heavyweights, particularly given Oleksandr Usyk's reported proximity to retirement and Tyson Fury's declining powers. IBF champion Filip Hrgovic, whom Dubois had stopped in June 2024, entered the ring afterwards, with both men expressing interest in a rematch.
