Quick Facts
- Concluded exclusive contract with SM Entertainment
- Ended all activities as NCT member
- Shifted to solo acting and variety entertainment career in China

- Shared heartfelt letter to fans via Instagram

Chinese artist WINWIN has officially concluded his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment effective July 9, 2026, marking the end of his decade-long tenure with the K-pop agency and the group NCT. The 28-year-old, whose real name is Dong Sicheng, debuted as a member of NCT 127 in July 2016 and later joined the Chinese unit WayV in 2019. SM Entertainment announced the mutual decision on July 8 through Weverse, expressing gratitude for his contributions and pledging support for his future endeavors.
WINWIN's departure follows a strategic shift toward his solo career in China, which accelerated in early 2021 when he relocated to his home country and established his own studio, Beijing Zhaoyao Culture Media Studio. During his hiatus from group activities since 2021, he transitioned to acting and variety entertainment, starring in Chinese dramas including Sweet Games, Snowfall, Perfect Match, A Splendid Match, and the film Blades of the Guardians. He is slated to appear in three additional upcoming dramas and will continue his solo work under his personal studio and Yuekai Entertainment.
In a heartfelt letter shared on Instagram, WINWIN reflected on his decade-long journey, expressing deep gratitude to SM Entertainment, his bandmates, and fans. He emphasized that despite facing exhaustion and setbacks, his most enduring memories center on happiness, joy, and the meaningful connections forged during his time as an artist. He credited these experiences with shaping who he has become and pledged to continue pursuing his dreams with the same commitment.
WINWIN's departure reflects broader shifts within SM Entertainment's original member roster as their initial 10-year contracts expire. Mark Lee, the former NCT Dream leader, left SM Entertainment in April 2026 to establish his own entertainment company for solo pursuits. Thai artist TEN declined solo contract renewal but retained NCT and WayV group memberships under SM Entertainment. Korean members' contract decisions have been deferred due to mandatory military service obligations. Fans anticipate further announcements from other original members regarding their contract renewals.
Why This Matters
WINWIN's departure signals a significant turning point for SM Entertainment's global K-pop operations and reflects the broader industry trend of artists pursuing solo careers in their home markets, particularly China. For fans, this marks the end of an era for NCT and WayV, while highlighting how Chinese market opportunities are reshaping artist priorities and contract negotiations in the Korean entertainment industry.
