Trevoh Chalobah completes £30m move to Como after 18 years at Chelsea

Trevoh Chalobah has completed his permanent transfer to Italian club Como, concluding an 18-year tenure at Chelsea. The deal is worth over £30 million, with Chelsea receiving an initial £25.7 million and performance-based add-ons worth up to £5.1 million. The 27-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract with Como, who secured Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in Serie A last season.

Chalobah joined Chelsea as an under-9 and progressed through the club's academy, including winning the UEFA Youth League in 2016 and consecutive FA Youth Cups in 2017. After successful loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, Lorient, and Crystal Palace, he became a permanent first-team player shortly after his 22nd birthday. He made 151 competitive appearances for Chelsea and won five trophies, including the FA Cup (2018), UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Conference League (2025), and two Club World Cups. Last season, Chalobah played 47 games—the most of any Chelsea central defender—and scored three goals. He holds two senior England caps and was a late call-up to England's 2026 World Cup squad, where he finished third.

At Como, Chalobah will reunite with manager Cesc Fabregas, who briefly overlapped with him at Chelsea during his time as a midfielder. Fabregas described Chalobah as "an important signing" representing the club's ambition, noting his leadership and ability to raise team standards. Chalobah expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating he looks forward to contributing to Como's project and working with Fabregas again.

On social media, Chalobah posted an emotional farewell to Chelsea, reflecting on his journey from a nine-year-old academy recruit to an experienced professional. He wrote: "After 18 years, it's time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I arrived as a nine-year-old with a dream, and I leave as a man who's lived that dream." He also offered encouragement to current Chelsea academy players, emphasizing perseverance and faith. Chelsea's official statement praised his "unwavering commitment and friendly persona," thanking him for his loyal service.
