Caíque Verli, a 33-year-old reporter for TV Gazeta (a Globo affiliate in Espírito Santo), was found dead in his apartment in the Jardim da Penha neighbourhood of Vitória on the morning of Thursday, July 23, 2026. Friends discovered his body and called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), which confirmed the death at the scene. The Civil Police were also notified and are investigating the cause of death.
Verli was a native of Carangola, in Minas Gerais state, and held a journalism degree from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), earned in 2015. He completed the 17th cohort of the Rede Gazeta Residency Course and began working in the network's multimedia newsroom in 2017. Over his career, he contributed to multiple outlets including the A Gazeta website, CBN Vitória radio, and TV Gazeta.
Rede Gazeta released a statement expressing "profound regret" at his death and noting that his family, who reside in Minas Gerais, has been informed and is receiving support from the company. Colleagues noted his professionalism and sensitivity in reporting. Rafaela Marquezini, editor and presenter of "Gazeta Meio Dia," described him as someone with "great care for sources and respect for others' pain" and said he "had a keen nose for news" and was "passionate about journalism." The Federal Highway Police (PRF) of Espírito Santo also released a statement honouring his work as a professional and impartial journalist.
Details about the funeral and burial will be announced at a later date. The cause of death remains under investigation by the Espírito Santo Civil Police.
