The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Golden State Warriors on Friday night without starting forward Ziaire Williams, who has been ruled out due to left foot injury management. Williams missed his second consecutive game after also sitting out Wednesday's victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. The 6-foot-10 wing, who signed a one-year minimum contract with the Lakers over the summer, was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to out six hours before tipoff.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick addressed Williams' status before the matchup, stating the team is taking a cautious approach early in the season. "I think he's in a good spot. He still has some soreness. We're just going to have to continue to monitor it," Redick told reporters. "He was in shootaround this morning. Again, just being overly cautious with the amount of games we have to start the season." Williams has dealt with foot complications since the preseason.
Despite Williams' absence, the Lakers enter Friday's game with momentum, holding a 5-1 record in their first six games after defeating the Warriors 127-105 on opening night and the Clippers 103-87 on Wednesday. Star player Luka Doncic, who missed Wednesday's game due to back tightness, has been cleared to play and is no longer on the injury report. The Warriors will be without several key players, including Kristaps Porziņģis (not with team), Jimmy Butler III (right ACL repair surgery), and Moses Moody (left patellar tendon repair surgery). Forward Gui Santos is listed as doubtful with left knee tendinitis.
Williams has been one of the Lakers' standout performers this season, averaging 11.3 points on efficient 57.1% shooting from the field and 46.7% from three-point range, along with 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. His improved outside shooting has been a key contributor to the Lakers ranking third in the NBA in three-point accuracy at 39.2%. The team will rely on other forwards including Quentin Grimes, Jake LaRavia, Sandro Mamukelashvili, and Matisse Thybulle to fill the gap created by Williams' absence.
The Lakers also remain without guard Cameron Carr (right oblique strain) and forward Adou Thiero (left knee injury management), both of whom have yet to make their season debuts. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. PT on Prime Video, with the teams meeting in NBA Cup Group Play action.

Why This Matters
The Lakers enter Friday's matchup with a 5-1 record; Williams' absence removes their third-leading scorer (11.3 PPG) and efficient three-point shooter from the lineup, requiring rotation depth to fill forward slots. Conversely, Doncic's return strengthens the roster after missing Wednesday's win. The Warriors face multiple absences including Porziņģis and Butler, affecting their competitive capacity. Game outcome and injury status updates will influence playoff positioning and player availability tracking through the season.
