Bollywood actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon have provided Hindi voices for the Hollywood horror thriller Obsession, which premiered on JioHotstar's Peacock Hub on October 30, 2026 at 7 pm. Sanon voices the character Nikki, while Dhawan lends his voice to Bear in the Hindi-dubbed version, which streams alongside the original English version.
The film, directed by Curry Barker and starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, follows Bear, a shy music store employee who uses a mysterious object called the One Wish Willow to make his co-worker Nikki fall in love with him. The wish backfires when Nikki becomes dangerously obsessed with him, leading to escalating psychological horror.
Ahead of the release, Dhawan and Sanon recreated one of the film's most unsettling scenes—a tense restaurant sequence—in Hindi, with filmmaker Amar Kaushik directing the recreation. The promotional video was shared on social media and received positive audience response, with viewers praising Sanon's voice modulation, expressions, and performance in particular. Both actors previously worked together on the 2022 horror comedy Bhediya.
Sanon described the project as her dubbing debut and noted that she had never played such an edgy character before, calling the experience exciting and challenging. Dhawan said the close study required for dubbing allowed him to notice details he might have missed on a first viewing. Alok Jain, head of Hindi and English entertainment at JioStar, stated that the actors' cross-generational appeal and familiarity with the horror genre made them suitable for bringing the film to Hindi-speaking audiences.
Obsession became a global box office success despite being made on a budget of approximately USD 750,000. The film earned USD 522 million worldwide, with USD 263 million from domestic markets and USD 253 million internationally, making it one of the most profitable films ever produced. In India, the film earned Rs 84.90 crore during its theatrical run, which began on May 29, 2026, following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival the previous year. The film was produced by Blumhouse Productions, Capstone Studios, and Tea Shop Productions.

Why This Matters
A USD 750,000-budget horror film that grossed USD 522 million globally is entering the Hindi-speaking market through major OTT platform JioHotstar, leveraging two established Bollywood actors for dubbing. The simultaneous release of English and Hindi versions reflects expanding monetization of blockbuster films across language markets in India; concurrent promotional activity—including a high-profile scene recreation directed by noted filmmaker Amar Kaushik—indicates studios' investment in localized content strategies for non-English speaking audiences.
