Ukrainian drones conducted strikes on the Belgorod region and southern Russian cities on the night of July 26–27, 2026, according to Russian regional authorities and independent reports.
In Belgorod, 12–13 civilians were injured, including two children (an 11-year-old boy reported in serious condition and a 2-year-old girl in moderate condition), according to Belgorod Region's Operational Headquarters and Acting Governor Alexander Shuvayev. One woman sustained a shrapnel wound to the temporal area and was treated on site; others were hospitalized. The strikes set fire to apartments in a residential building and over 15 parked vehicles. A private house was partially destroyed and several apartment buildings were damaged. Firefighters extinguished most fires, though some residents were unable to return to their homes and temporary shelters were established.
In Rostov-on-Don, southern Russia, two people were killed and five to eight injured according to statements from Regional Governor Yury Slyusar. Falling drone debris sparked fires in warehouses, private houses, and a café. Damage was recorded across three districts (Zheleznodorozhny, Proletarsky, and Leninsky), with broken windows in residential and social buildings. A homeless center with 43 residents and 3 workers was hit but reported no injuries. A state of emergency was declared in affected areas. Smoke was observed rising from Rostov-on-Don's shipping port near a damaged residential building.
Explosions were also reported in Taganrog on the Azov Sea coast, though reports could not be immediately verified. Ukrainian forces stated the strikes targeted military infrastructure to reduce Russia's capacity to wage war. Ukraine's General Staff separately reported strikes on a Chornomornaftogaz facility and drone control relay equipment in occupied Crimea, and a bridge in occupied Donetsk Oblast on July 26.
Russian air defense systems reported intercepting and destroying 276 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions including Belgorod, Rostov, Bryansk, Voronezh, and airspace over the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. Belgorod Region reported 141 drones shot down in its airspace alone. Shuvayev stated that over the past 24 hours, the Belgorod region was attacked 93 times via drone strikes, artillery shelling, and explosive devices dropped from UAVs, affecting 12 districts.
The strikes reflect an intensification of cross-border drone operations. Ukraine regularly conducts strikes on targets within Russia and occupied territories, while Russia continues aerial attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukrainian cities.

Why This Matters
Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory and occupied areas continue to target military and civilian infrastructure. Belgorod Region experienced multiple impacts on residential buildings and vehicles; Rostov-on-Don reported fatalities and fires affecting warehouses and homes. Russia's reported interception of 276 drones indicates sustained cross-border air operations. These strikes affect civilian populations, critical port facilities in southern Russia, and underscore the intensity of drone warfare across the Russia-Ukraine conflict zone.
