Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases July 31 with Sadie Sink's mystery role intact

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will arrive in theatres on July 31, 2026, continuing Peter Parker's story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film picks up years later, following Doctor Strange's spell that caused everyone to forget Peter's identity. Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker, navigating life alone while his former friends and girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya, have no memory of him.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton's film adopts a darker, more grounded tone than previous Spider-Man installments. Holland described it as "one of the darkest chapters" in Peter Parker's life, emphasizing themes of vulnerability and isolation. "The movie kind of serves as this cautionary tale about living a life alone, the importance of community, and how sometimes the bravest thing to do in life is to ask for help," Holland said in interviews. He referenced a lesson from Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man portrayal, noting that his character is actively ignoring advice to seek help, which has profound consequences for him as a human being.

The film features several returning and new characters. Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Jon Bernthal reprises his role as The Punisher, marking a crossover from Marvel's Daredevil series. Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova is rumored to make a cameo appearance. Jacob Batalon returns as Ned Leeds. New cast members include Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III, Eman Esfandi, and Liza Colón-Zayas.

The central mystery surrounding the film is the identity of Sadie Sink's character. Despite widespread fan speculation—with theories ranging from Jean Grey to Mary Jane Watson to a potential villain—Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have not confirmed her role. Producer Amy Pascal revealed that Sink's character experiences the same emotional journey as Peter Parker and other central characters, struggling with isolation, alienation, and denial about their current lives. Sink confirmed in interviews that keeping the secret was difficult once promotional duties began.

The film's trailers have generated significant speculation about future MCU storylines. Tom Holland hinted at the likelihood of the symbiote appearing in Spider-Man's MCU future, stating "I'm sure we'll get to see the symbiote" eventually, though he declined to confirm whether it appears in Brand New Day. Fans have theorized potential connections to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for December 2027. The new Spider-Man suit pays homage to Tobey Maguire's original design, connecting the film to earlier Spider-Man iterations.
