The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported on Wednesday that consumer gasoline prices in Russia rose by 0.95% during the week of June 9–15, accelerating from the previous week's gain of 0.92% (June 2–8). This marks the fourth consecutive week of faster weekly increases, following rises of 0.45% (May 26–June 1), 0.34% (May 19–25), and 0.11% (May 13–18, a shortened week due to an additional public holiday). As of June 15, gasoline prices have increased by 6.61% since the start of the year, significantly outpacing the overall inflation rate of 3.68% over the same period.
The average retail price of a litre of gasoline across Russia reached 69.11 rubles on June 15, compared with 68.45 rubles on June 8. Prices by grade include: AI-92 at 65.41 rubles per litre (up from 64.75 rubles), AI-95 at 71.11 rubles (up from 70.44 rubles), and AI-98 at 95.38 rubles (up from 95.02 rubles).
Diesel fuel prices also continued their upward trajectory, rising 0.84% from June 9–15, following a 0.86% increase the previous week and a 0.78% rise from May 26 to June 1. Year-to-date growth in diesel prices stands at 5.69%, also above the overall inflation level. The average diesel price on June 15 was 80.78 rubles per litre, up from 80.12 rubles a week earlier.
Looking at longer-term trends, Rosstat data show that in 2025, consumer gasoline prices rose by 10.78%, nearly double the annual inflation rate of 5.59%. In 2024, gasoline prices increased by 11.13%, slightly ahead of the 9.52% general inflation for that year.
The sustained acceleration in fuel prices highlights ongoing inflationary pressures in the Russian economy, with energy costs rising faster than the broader consumer price index.
Why This Matters
For market analysts and investors tracking Russian inflation, this data signals persistent fuel cost pressures that outpace general consumer price growth. Rising gasoline and diesel prices could further strain household budgets and corporate transportation expenses, potentially influencing the Central Bank of Russia's monetary policy decisions. The sustained acceleration—now in its fourth week—suggests that supply-side factors or demand imbalances are not yet easing, creating a concrete risk of higher-than-expected inflation in coming months.
