Tesla unveils Roadster with SpaceX thrusters: 0–97 km/h in under 1 second

Tesla introduced a new vehicle category combining extreme acceleration performance with air-control systems, marking a significant shift in electric sports car design. The vehicle requires $50,000–$250,000 deposits with 2028 production target, signaling capital commitment to a non-road-approved vehicle segment. Current lack of regulatory approval means manufacturers, customers, and insurance markets will face policy and liability questions; industry comparison to existing fan-car platforms (McMurtry Spéirling) provides baseline for performance claims verification. Announcement affects Tesla's product portfolio positioning and establishes technical benchmarks against which future electric performance vehicles will be measured.
