Kanye West Saint Petersburg concerts canceled amid venue dispute

The planned concerts by American rapper Kanye West in Saint Petersburg on October 10-11 have been canceled, according to statements from his booking agency and the proposed venue. The situation reflects a breakdown in contractual arrangements and coordination between multiple parties involved in organizing the shows.

Access Opera, the American agency handling West's concert tour, initially confirmed the performances would proceed, citing sources within the organization. However, on September 25, Access Opera privately told a ticket buyer that the concerts would not take place, stating that "without a venue, the artist cannot perform." Gazprom Arena, the proposed venue, had publicly declared on September 18 that no rental contract had been signed with the organizers, making the concert impossible to hold at that location. Say Agency, the Russian promoter, had announced the concerts in August but failed to secure the venue agreement or obtain necessary permits from Saint Petersburg's culture committee.

The cancellation has created financial and legal complications for ticket buyers. Say Agency initially promised refunds "if the show is cancelled," but banks have refused most refund requests. At least five lawsuits have been filed against Say Agency in courts across Russia—in Voronezh, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg—by customers seeking to recover ticket purchases. Some VIP box holders have reportedly received refunds, but other ticket categories have faced resistance. The situation was further complicated by conflicting public statements from organizers, with the concerts appearing and disappearing from West's official tour schedule between September 18 and late September.

Access Opera acknowledged that Say Agency "is misinforming" ticket holders while denying issuing official public statements about cancellation, claiming instead that "some people tried to speak on our behalf." The agency directed all refund inquiries to Say Agency. As of late September, Say Agency's website continued to display promotional materials for the concerts despite the effective cancellation.
