Trump warns Iran: 1,000 missiles targeted if assassination attempt occurs

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 10 that 1,000 missiles are aimed at Iran, with thousands more ready to launch immediately if Tehran attempts to assassinate him. Writing on Truth Social, Trump stated that orders have already been given and the U.S. military is prepared and capable of completely destroying all areas of Iran within one year, subject to extension. He added that he has left instructions for military action should anything happen to him.

The threat came amid renewed military escalation between the U.S. and Iran in early July. The U.S. conducted strikes on Iranian territory in response to attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz near Omani waters. Iran retaliated by attacking American military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Trump subsequently announced the end of a ceasefire agreement that had been in place since June, and the U.S. revoked Iran's license to sell oil.

According to American officials, Iran privately acknowledged that the ship attacks were carried out by radical hardline groups attempting to sabotage ongoing negotiations. Despite the military escalation and Trump's warnings, the U.S. and Iran agreed to continue diplomatic talks at Iran's request. U.S. officials confirmed that negotiations are proceeding, with scheduled meetings expected in Oman on Saturday and technical discussions planned for Pakistan on July 12. The U.S. is pressing Iran to publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz open for international shipping and commit to ending attacks on commercial vessels, warning of "serious consequences" if Iran's position does not change.
