Trump Convenes Pentagon and Defense Officials to Boost Missile Production

President Donald Trump has summoned senior Pentagon officials and executives from major U.S. defense contractors to discuss accelerating the production of missiles and other critical munitions. The meeting, attended by Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg and senior managers from leading firms including Lockheed Martin, RTX, Boeing, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, and Honeywell Aerospace, reflects efforts to replenish U.S. military arsenals amid escalating regional tensions.

Trump announced that American automotive manufacturers, including Ford and General Motors, may transition some of their production facilities to manufacture weapons systems. Specifically, the administration is exploring the use of excess manufacturing capacity at car companies to produce Patriot air defense interceptors, Tomahawk cruise missiles, Standard Missiles, and THAAD systems. Trump stated that General Motors has expressed enthusiasm for the initiative and that some automotive plants will be converted for weapons production.

The Pentagon has reached a tentative agreement with major defense contractors to increase production of these critical weapons systems. The Department of Defense has requested $52.9 billion in the fiscal year 2027 draft budget to accelerate the production of 12 critical munitions types. However, congressional approval remains necessary to fund the expanded production initiative. Trump emphasized the administration's commitment to ensuring steady supplies of key defense systems to maintain military readiness.
