Arsyadany Ghana Akmalaputri was sworn in as Director General of Electricity (Dirjen Ketenagalistrikan) at Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on Monday, 2 November 2026. The appointment was made by Minister Bahlil Lahadalia at the Chairul Saleh Building in Jakarta. Akmalaputri, born in Semarang on 25 October 1982, previously served as Director of Distribution at PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia's state-owned electricity company, a position she held since 18 June 2025. Her appointment as PLN's distribution director marked her status as the youngest female director in the company's history.
Akmalaputri brings two decades of experience in the electricity sector. She began her PLN career in 2006 as a Senior SCADA IT Specialist at Bali's Distribution Control Area and progressed through multiple technical and managerial roles, including positions in central Java, eastern Java, and Nusa Tenggara Barat distribution units. Her career expanded into corporate communication, stakeholder management, and asset management, with roles including Vice President of Public Relations, Executive Vice President of Stakeholder Management and Board Support, and Executive Vice President of General Affairs and Property Assets.
Educationally, Akmalaputri holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (2004) and a master's degree in Business Management from Diponegoro University (2017). She completed leadership development programmes at Queensland University in 2016 and Harvard Business School in 2023, and obtained the qualification of Senior Professional Engineer (IPU) from the Indonesian Engineers Association in 2024. She has also served as Chief Commissioner of PT Paguntaka Cahaya Nusantara and participated in electricity sector organisations including the Indonesian Smart Grid Network Initiative (PJCI) and the Indonesian Electricity Society.
The appointment occurred as part of a broader reshuffle of senior officials within the ESDM Ministry. Akmalaputri replaces Tri Winarno, who had concurrently held the positions of Director General of Electricity and Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba). The Directorate General of Electricity oversees the formulation and implementation of government policy in the electricity sector, including business development and supervision, system and technology development, electricity safety, and environmental aspects. The sector faces strategic priorities including increased electrification ratios, equitable electricity infrastructure distribution, renewable energy development, and integration of clean energy generation into the national electricity system.
Why This Matters
Akmalaputri's appointment to the Directorate General of Electricity positions her to oversee policy formulation and implementation across Indonesia's electricity sector, including electrification ratios, infrastructure distribution, renewable energy development, and clean energy integration. As the first female director of her rank at PLN and now a senior policy official, her appointment reflects organizational changes at the ESDM Ministry that may affect strategic priorities in energy distribution and sustainability initiatives affecting millions of Indonesian electricity consumers and national infrastructure development timelines.
