Powerball Jackpot Reaches $905 Million; Next Drawing Set for August 10
The Powerball jackpot reached $905 million after no winners were drawn on August 9, 2026. Winners can choose between a $391.9 million lump sum or $905 million in 30 annual payments, both subject to federal and state taxes that significantly reduce the final payout. The next drawing is scheduled for August 10.
Quick Facts
- Powerball drawing held with no jackpot winner
- jackpot rolled over
- multiple players won secondary prizes
- Powerball players
- winners in Florida, Arizona, Michigan, New York, and Texas

The Powerball jackpot has climbed to $905 million after no winning tickets matched all numbers in the August 9 drawing. The winning numbers drawn were 5, 9, 35, 54, 63, and Powerball 7. The next drawing is scheduled for the evening of August 10, 2026.
Winners will have two payout options: a lump sum of $391.9 million or annual payments over 30 years totaling $905 million. The lump sum option is more commonly selected despite yielding less total value. However, both options face substantial tax deductions. A lump sum winner would see an immediate 24% federal withholding, reducing the amount to approximately $297.8 million. Winners are then placed in the highest federal income tax bracket at 37%, further reducing their take-home to roughly $246.8 million after federal taxes. Under the annuity option, winners receive 30 payments growing by 5% annually, totaling approximately $570 million after federal taxes.
Additional state income taxes apply depending on the winner's state of residence, ranging from 2.5% to 13.3%. Nine states—Alaska, Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming—do not levy state income taxes on lottery winnings. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. In Saturday's drawing, while no one won the jackpot, several tickets matched the five white balls for a $1 million prize, including winners in Florida, Arizona, Michigan, and New York. One Texas player who selected all five numbers with the Power Play option doubled their prize to $2 million.

Why This Matters
The Powerball jackpot at $905 million affects lottery participants' expected payout calculations. Lottery players in non-tax states (Alaska, Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming) retain larger shares than those in states with 2.5–13.3% lottery income tax. Federal tax withholding (24% on lump sum, rising to 37% top bracket) and annuity structure (5% annual growth over 30 years) materially change take-home amounts; lump sum nets roughly $246.8 million federally after tax, while annuity nets ~$570 million federally over 30 years. Odds of winning remain 1 in 292.2 million; secondary prize winners in five states received confirmed payouts in the August 9 drawing.
