He was held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. Eric Bieniemy, the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, was with the team at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the time of the incident. He remained absent from team activities to be with his family. Pass game coordinator Joe Bleymaier and offensive line coach Andy Heck assumed most of his responsibilities during his absence. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Mia Bieniemy was "doing better, and great from where she was," and that Eric Bieniemy would return when he had addressed his family matters. Reid declined to provide a timeline for his return.

Eric Bieniemy rejoined the Chiefs as offensive coordinator in 2026 after previously holding the position from 2018 to 2022, during which the team reached three Super Bowls and won two. He had served as the Washington Commanders' offensive coordinator in 2023, the reason the Bieniemy family maintained a home in Virginia. After that staff was dismissed, he spent a season at UCLA and another with the Chicago Bears coaching running backs before returning to Kansas City.
