BRI Super League club Persija Jakarta has officially parted ways with midfielder Hanif Sjahbandi by mutual agreement, ending a four-season partnership ahead of the 2026/2027 season. The decision was announced on June 17, 2026, despite Sjahbandi having a contract that originally ran until July 2027.
Persija Jakarta president Mohamad Prapanca expressed his appreciation for Sjahbandi's dedication and hard work over the past four seasons, praising his discipline, work ethic, and fighting spirit both in training and in matches. "We are proud to have walked alongside Hanif, a player who always showed high commitment and dedication in every effort," Prapanca said in a statement. He added, "However, now we have chosen our own paths. With the positive reputation he has, we believe Hanif will continue to develop and shine again at his new club."
Throughout his four seasons with the Kemayoran Tigers, Sjahbandi proved to be a versatile player, capable of performing both as a midfielder and as a defender. The Bandung-born player, born on April 7, 1997, contributed consistently on the pitch: in his debut Liga 1 season in 2022/2023, he made 28 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist. His performance improved in the 2023/2024 season with three goals and three assists from 26 appearances, and he maintained his form in the 2024/2025 season with 33 appearances and two goals.
In his final season with the club, the 2025/2026 Super League campaign, Sjahbandi's playing time was significantly reduced. A knee injury limited him to only 11 appearances, during which he contributed three assists. Despite the reduced pitch time, the club acknowledged his overall impact and wished him well for his future career. Both parties expressed mutual respect as they move forward on separate paths.
Why This Matters
This move signals that Persija Jakarta is clearing roster space and salary cap ahead of the 2026/2027 season, possibly to bring in new reinforcements. For Hanif Sjahbandi, being released by mutual consent with a positive reputation opens the door for him to sign with another club quickly, especially given his proven versatility in midfield and defense. Fans of Southeast Asian football should watch where he lands next, as he could strengthen a rival or top-tier team in the region.
