Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain, the team announced before Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The 11-time All-Star sustained the injury while running to first base Wednesday during the Angels' 8-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Trout, 34, has played in 74 of the team's first 75 games this season, marking a resurgent year after injuries have limited his availability throughout the past several years.
Trout expressed cautious optimism about the injury, telling MLB.com that his condition improved significantly from Wednesday night to Thursday. "From last night to today, it's a night-and-day difference, so that's positive for me," he said. "I was a little worried last night, but had a plane ride and just sitting down after playing, so that kind of came into effect. But feels way better today, so I'm not overly concerned about it. But I'm going to do everything I can in that training room and the weight room to get back."
Trout's absence comes during what has been a productive offensive season. The veteran outfielder entered Thursday leading the American League with 54 runs scored and ranked second in the majors behind Washington's James Wood. He also leads the major leagues in walks with 66, ahead of Oakland's Nick Kurtz. Trout is batting .234 with a .866 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, along with 17 home runs, 36 RBIs, and seven stolen bases. He had recently received the second-highest vote count among AL outfielders in All-Star Game balloting, though the All-Star Game will take place in Philadelphia next month, near where he grew up.
Injuries have been a recurring theme for Trout since his third American League MVP award in 2019. Over the past six seasons, he has surpassed 82 games only twice—with 119 games in 2022 and 130 games in 2025. To fill the roster gap, the Angels recalled infielder Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake. Moore was hitting .333 with a .468 on-base percentage, nine home runs, 45 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in 51 games at Salt Lake while playing multiple positions. The organization also made several other roster adjustments, recalling right-hander Ryan Johnson from Double-A Rocket City, releasing left-hander Drew Pomeranz, and optioning right-hander Brett Kerry and catcher Logan Porter to Salt Lake.

Why This Matters
Trout's absence disrupts the Angels' offensive core during what has been a resurgent season for him—he leads the AL in runs scored and the majors in walks. While his cautious optimism suggests a potentially brief recovery, his injury history since 2019 raises concerns about durability. For fantasy players and fans monitoring the All-Star voting, this injury could impact his availability for the July All-Star Game in Philadelphia.
