Pugstorm and Fireshine Games are hosting a free weekend for Core Keeper on Steam from October 9 at 2:00 AM to October 13 at 2:00 AM Japan time. Core Keeper is a mining sandbox adventure game set in an ancient underground world. Players engage in combat, mining, building, and crafting while exploring diverse biomes and uncovering mysteries. The game supports 1–8 players, with online cooperative play accommodating drop-in and drop-out mechanics. Additional gameplay elements include farming, fishing, cooking, and pet breeding. The game achieved 6 million players worldwide since its full release on August 27, 2024, following early access that began in March 2022.
The September update "Riders of the Underground" introduces animal riding mechanics and a new item called the Hookshot, which enables players to traverse gaps and holes more easily during exploration. All new gameplay features are included in the free weekend trial.
Save data created during the free weekend can be transferred to the full version if purchased on Steam after the promotion ends. The game is priced at ¥2,300 on Steam and supports 13 languages including Japanese, English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Thai, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, and Ukrainian.

Why This Matters
Core Keeper's free weekend trial allows prospective players to experience the full game and latest content without cost, with save-game portability reducing re-play friction for potential purchasers. The timing coincides with the September "Riders of the Underground" update rollout, exposing new mechanics (animal riding, Hookshot traversal tools) to trial players. Steam free weekends typically drive acquisition and can signal publisher confidence in retention; the game has reached 6 million players since August 2024 launch.
