Motorola Signature 27 named best 2026 smartphone camera by DXOMARK

Motorola has announced that its Signature 27 flagship smartphone has been recognized by DXOMARK as the device with the best camera system among all smartphones launched in 2026. The phone achieved a score of 173 points and received DXOMARK's Gold certification, recognizing excellence in both photography and video recording. According to DXOMARK's independent testing methodology, this score places the Signature 27 ahead of all other Android and iOS devices tested in the organization's history, though it ranks second globally after the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra (175 points, launched in 2025).

The Signature 27's camera system comprises four image sensors: a 50MP Sony LYTIA L910 primary camera with LOFIC technology for enhanced low-light performance, a 50MP ultrawide camera with macro capability, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, and a dedicated event-based vision sensor (EVS) for action photography. The front-facing camera is 50MP with 4K video support. The device supports 8K video recording with Dolby Vision and includes a Video Enhancement Engine that uses AI to optimize color, contrast, and dynamic range in real time. Motorola and DXOMARK collaborated over weeks to refine image processing across scenarios including night photography, portraiture, zoom, and video recording.

The Signature 27 is priced at $1,600 in the United States and starts at R$10,999 (approximately $2,200 USD) in Brazil for the 256GB storage option. The device features a 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo display with a peak brightness of 12,000 nits, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The phone weighs 227 grams and measures 7.99mm thick, with a 7,000mAh battery supporting 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It is available in Coal Smoke (black with tactical weave finish) and Capulet Olive (green with textile-inspired finish) colors.

The achievement reflects Motorola's collaborative development with Qualcomm Technologies and DXOMARK. According to Matt Biggerstaff, Motorola's Director of Camera Design Engineering, the company has advanced over 70 points on DXOMARK's evaluation system in the past five years—more than double the progress of leading competitors. DXOMARK CEO Frédéric Guichard attributed the result to a five-year partnership built on shared commitment to image quality and consumer experience. The Signature 27 is the first smartphone to include a dedicated EVS action sensor and the first to offer Bang & Olufsen audio. Motorola has also partnered with Meta to enable Ultra HDR photos and videos on Instagram.
