Shraddha Kapoor's Unflinching Portrayal of Vithabai Narayangavkar Captivates in 'Eetha' Teaser

The first teaser for the upcoming biographical film 'Eetha' has generated considerable buzz, showcasing Shraddha Kapoor in a transformative role as the legendary Lavani and Tamasha performer Vithabai Narayangavkar. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film delves into the life of the iconic folk artist from Maharashtra. The teaser, which premiered exclusively in theaters alongside the release of 'Cocktail 2', features Kapoor in a never-before-seen avatar that has left audiences and critics deeply impressed.

The teaser highlights a particularly poignant and dramatic episode from Vithabai's life. Kapoor's character is seen performing on stage while in the advanced stages of pregnancy. When she goes into labor, she does not halt the performance. Instead, she retreats backstage, gives birth, cuts the umbilical cord with a stone, and promptly returns to the stage to resume her dance. 'Vithabai Narayangavkar was a titan of Maharashtra's folk theatre, known for her powerful stage presence, expressive voice, and high-energy performances,' the film's team noted. Born in July 1935 in Pandharpur, Solapur district, into a family deeply rooted in traditional folk arts, she began her career in childhood and rose to become one of the most celebrated Tamasha artists. Her contributions to Indian folk culture earned her two President's Awards, in 1957 and 1990, cementing her legacy as a cultural icon.

Kapoor underwent a dramatic physical transformation for the role, reportedly gaining over 15 kilograms to accurately portray the younger Vithabai. The actor also suffered a minor injury to her left toe during the filming of a Lavani dance sequence, which required fast beats and intricate steps composed by the duo Ajay-Atul. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan, reuniting him with director Utekar after their successful collaboration on 'Chhaava'.

'Eetha' is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 28, 2026. The film also stars Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles.
