Russian Officer Claims Ukraine Deliberately Provoking Belarus Into Regional Conflict

Konstantin Ryzhak, a veteran of Russia's special military operation and member of the Courage and Bravery Council of the All-Russia Organization "Officers of Russia," has accused Ukraine's government of deliberately attempting to draw Belarus into the broader regional conflict through a coordinated campaign of provocations. Speaking to TASS on June 17, Ryzhak alleged that Ukraine has adopted a deliberate strategy targeting Belarus, citing multiple incidents he characterized as part of this effort.

Ryzhak pointed to a June 2026 drone attack on a bus carrying a Belarusian children's soccer team traveling through the Bryansk Region to Gelendzhik as a central example of this alleged provocation strategy. According to reports, the attack killed one woman accompanying the team and injured eight people, including six minors. Ryzhak characterized this as a "terrorist attack" and described it as part of a pattern of Ukrainian strikes targeting children, also referencing previous incidents in Russia's Belgorod and Zaporozhye regions.

Beyond military operations, Ryzhak identified several political and diplomatic actions he claimed were part of Ukraine's strategy to destabilize Belarus. These include Ukrainian drone incursions into Belarusian airspace, statements by Kiev authorities criticizing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, cooperation with Belarusian opposition figures including Svetlana Tikhanovskaya's visit to Kiev, and the integration of the Konstanty Kalinowski Belarusian Nationalist Battalion into Ukrainian armed forces.

Ryzhak characterized Ukraine's conduct in the conflict as fundamentally immoral, arguing that the Kiev regime operates without ethical constraints. He drew a historical comparison to Nazi Germany, quoting Adolf Hitler while contending that Ukraine's targeting of children demonstrates a complete absence of conscience or humanitarian concern. According to Ryzhak, this pattern of attacks on civilians—particularly children—represents deliberate war crimes designed to provoke Belarus into direct military involvement.
