Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the press conference and emphasized that President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative seeks to build a more just and equitable global governance system. Wang Yi characterized the initiative as responding to countries' common needs for governance reform and as enriching efforts to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
According to the Foreign Minister, the Global Governance Initiative has gained substantial international support, with nearly 160 countries and international organizations welcoming the proposal. Over 60 countries have joined the Group of Friends of Global Governance. The initiative reflects China's commitment to practical multilateralism and global system improvement, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy.
China highlighted its multilateral contributions, noting it is the second-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping budgets and has deployed more peacekeepers than any other permanent UN Security Council member. Under the Global Development Initiative framework, China has launched more than 1,800 cooperation projects and provided 80,000 training opportunities. The country has also expanded zero-tariff treatment to all African nations and least-developed countries with which it has diplomatic relations.
To institutionalize global governance improvements, China announced initiatives including the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation and the World Data Organization, preparations for a World AI Cooperation Organization, and plans to host the inaugural Xiong'an Global Governance Forum in autumn 2026. China pledged to work with all parties to strengthen the UN's central role, enable the Global South to play a pivotal role, and address governance gaps and deficits in the international system.
