New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson will ride in one of his custom pickup trucks during the team's championship parade on Thursday in Manhattan, a source close to the player told the New York Post. The parade, which marks the Knicks' first NBA title in 53 years, will travel down the Canyon of Heroes beginning at 10 a.m. from Battery Park and conclude with a City Hall celebration hosted by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Robinson, 28, has long been passionate about customized trucks. In a 2023 interview with the Post, he discussed the three trucks he owned at the time, all equipped with oversized rims, and noted that he had been invited to car shows across the country. His Instagram profile photo shows him sitting in the flatbed of his white truck, and an Instagram post from the account @thecelebrity_cars on Tuesday featured seven vehicles from his collection.
“You could compete, show your trucks off, get sponsorships, all that stuff,” Robinson said in 2023. “Show your work. Your idea. Your creativity.” Either Robinson or a friend will be behind the wheel during the parade, as fans had speculated whether he would bring one of his trucks from his White Plains home to the celebration.
The championship parade could be one of Robinson's final appearances with the franchise, as he is set to enter free agency this offseason. Robinson, the longest-tenured Knick, was drafted in the second round in 2018 and experienced the franchise's lows before reaching the pinnacle. He secured a critical offensive rebound in the final 30 seconds of Game 5 against the San Antonio Spurs, allowing the Knicks to seal a 94-90 victory and win the series in five games. Robinson battled Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama for that rebound while playing with a broken right hand, and his defense in Game 2, including contesting Wembanyama's potential game-winning shot, helped the Knicks take a 2-0 series lead.
