Russian President Vladimir Putin published an article in the Kazakh newspaper Kazakhstanskaya Pravda ahead of his state visit to Kazakhstan, outlining what he described as the strong prospects of the two countries’ partnership. The piece, also posted on the Kremlin website, set out Russia’s view of the current state of ties with Kazakhstan and the areas in which the two sides are cooperating.

In the article, titled "Russia-Kazakhstan: Alliance in the Heart of Eurasia," Putin said the relationship between Moscow and Astana is built on friendship, shared historical memory and respect for the Russian language. He also referred to his own ties with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and said the planned talks in Astana should give further momentum to bilateral cooperation.

Putin highlighted economic links, saying Russian investment in Kazakhstan is approaching $30 billion and that Russian partners are involved in more than 40% of foreign-invested companies in the country. He said Russian investors are participating in 70 major projects across sectors including automotive manufacturing, heavy engineering and chemicals, which he said have created more than 60,000 jobs.

The Russian president also pointed to trade and financial cooperation, saying cross-border commerce is increasingly carried out in national currencies and has remained at a high level for several years. He separately praised Kazakhstan’s development under Tokayev and expressed confidence in the country’s modernization path.

Putin also cited space cooperation as a symbolic example of the countries’ partnership, referring to the April 30 launch of the Russian-Kazakhstani Soyuz 5/Sunkar medium-lift rocket from the Baiterek Complex. He said the launch, which coincided with the 65th anniversary of Yury Gagarin’s first human orbital flight from Baikonur, marked an important joint step in bilateral relations.
