Uber has released an updated list of approved vehicles for its premium Comfort and Black ride categories, effective January 11, 2027. The changes will remove several popular models from these tiers, affecting drivers and passengers across Brazil.
According to the new rules, the Volkswagen Nivus, Volkswagen Virtus, Chevrolet Cruze, and Renault Duster will no longer be eligible for the Black category starting January 11, 2027. However, the Volkswagen Virtus has a later removal date of July 5, 2027. The BYD Dolphin electric model can still be registered in Black until December 31, 2026, and will remain eligible until December 31, 2027. Owners of these vehicles may continue offering rides through the Comfort category.
In the Comfort category, the Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Argo will be excluded regardless of manufacturing year, also starting January 11, 2027. Drivers whose vehicles lose Comfort eligibility can still operate in the UberX category. Uber has also adjusted the minimum vehicle year requirements for both categories, which may vary by municipality.
To qualify for Black, vehicles must have body colors in black, lead, gray, navy blue, brown, silver, or white. Drivers need more than 100 completed trips on the platform in other categories and a minimum average rating of 4.85. Comfort cars have no color restrictions, but drivers in certain cities (Brasília, Caxias do Sul, Curitiba, Joinville, Londrina, and Porto Alegre) must maintain a 4.85 average, while elsewhere a 4.80 minimum applies.
Uber stated that the eligible vehicle lists are based on feedback from users regarding comfort, interior space, and overall refinement, reflecting the premium nature of these service tiers.

Why This Matters
Uber drivers in Brazil need to know which vehicles will remain eligible for higher-paying premium categories like Comfort and Black. Missing the deadlines could force a downgrade to UberX, reducing earnings. Passengers may also notice fewer premium options on the road starting 2027. Drivers of affected models should plan ahead to upgrade or adjust their service tier.
