Orenburg Region Braces for Severe Storms, Hail, and Orange- alert

The Orenburg region in Russia is bracing for another day of severe weather, with forecasters warning of persistent heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) has maintained an orange weather warning—the second-highest level of alert—as dangerous conditions are expected to persist through June 23, 2026.

According to regional weather agencies, cloudy skies and continuous rain are forecast across the entire region, with the heaviest downpours expected in the western and northern districts. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. However, the warm temperatures will be accompanied by powerful thunderstorms and the possibility of hail.

Wind gusts from the southwest and west are projected to reach 13 to 18 meters per second, raising the risk of falling trees, damage to poorly secured structures, and localized flooding. Authorities have identified the western and central areas of the Orenburg region as the most vulnerable, where the combination of heavy rain and strong winds could lead to hazardous conditions.

In response, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has issued a set of safety recommendations for residents. Pedestrians are advised to avoid underground passages and other low-lying areas, seek shelter in buildings above potential flood levels, and stay clear of trees, power lines, billboards, and dilapidated structures. Drivers are urged to postpone non-essential travel, avoid crossing flooded roads, and park vehicles away from trees and unstable structures. In life-threatening situations, residents are instructed to call the emergency number 112.

Local rescue services remain on high alert as the region faces a prolonged spell of unstable weather.
