The National Testing Agency (NTA) has dismissed as fake a video circulating on social media that falsely claimed the NEET UG 2026 re-examination question paper was leaked on Telegram prior to the test. In a statement, the NTA said the examination, held on June 21, 2026, was conducted successfully under comprehensive security and surveillance measures.
The agency noted that more than 20 lakh medical aspirants took the re-examination across 5,440 centres in India and 14 centres abroad, in 13 languages including Hindi and English. The NTA emphasized that it is taking action with the support of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) and law enforcement agencies against those responsible for originating the false content.
NTA Director General Abhishek Singh credited a "whole-of-government" approach for conducting the massive exercise in a record 37 days, after the original test was cancelled due to paper leaks that triggered widespread protests. The agency deployed around 7 lakh officials, including police teams, observers, and examination staff, to ensure smooth conduct.
Security measures included Aadhaar-based biometric and face authentication, CCTV surveillance, jammers, and two-layer frisking. National and state-level command and control centres monitored the process in real time. Special arrangements were made for over 10,000 candidates with disabilities, including 81 with medical conditions such as a child recovering from a road accident and another undergoing chemotherapy.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed the preparations at the NTA headquarters in Delhi. The NTA urged students, parents, and the public to rely only on official channels—www.neet.nta.nic.in and verified NTA social media handles—for information and to avoid amplifying unverified material.
