Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton's all-time England appearance record on 6 October 2026, earning his 125th cap in a 3–0 UEFA Nations League victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley Stadium. The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker and England captain scored twice in the dominant performance, extending his international goal tally to 91—the most by any England player.
Kane opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a close-range finish, then added a second goal in the 57th minute with a header from a Lewis Hall corner. He also created England's opening goal, delivering a cross that Czech defender Vladimír Coufal deflected into his own net. The match was played before a sold-out Wembley crowd.
With this milestone, Kane joined goalkeeper Shilton—who held the record for 36 years since his retirement in 1990—at the summit of England's all-time caps list. At 33, Kane achieved the record in 11 years of international football, having made his debut in March 2015 and scoring inside 79 seconds as a substitute against Lithuania.
Shilton congratulated Kane on social media, saying: "You will go on and beat it in November I am sure of that, and maybe go on and set a record that may never be beaten." Kane can surpass the record in England's next match against Croatia on 12 November 2026, also at Wembley. With 91 international goals, Kane now leads Wayne Rooney by 38 goals on the all-time scoring list and ranks among the five active players to reach 90 international goals, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo (146), Lionel Messi (125), Romelu Lukaku (94), and Robert Lewandowski (92).
Thomas Tuchel's England side secured their third consecutive victory after an opening loss to World Cup champions Spain. The win consolidated their position in Group A3 of the Nations League and moved them toward securing a place in the knockout stages. Jude Bellingham remarked of Kane: "He's only getting better," while Tuchel noted that Kane "does everything at the highest level" and credited his move to Bayern Munich with reaching "a new level." Kane is among the favorites to win the Ballon d'Or award, scheduled for 26 October 2026 in London.

Why This Matters
Kane's achievement marks a milestone in English football history; the 125-cap record affects legacy rankings and player valuation metrics used by clubs and award committees. His ability to break the record within weeks (Croatia match, 12 November) and his current position among top active scorers globally (91 goals) makes him a factor in major award voting (Ballon d'Or, 26 October 2026). England's third consecutive Nations League win positions them toward knockout qualification; performance and individual records influence squad selection and sponsorship/broadcasting valuations for England Football.
