Australian Model Sahara Ray Dies at 34, Months After Childbirth

Sahara Ray, an Australian model and swimwear designer, died on October 18, 2026, at age 34. Her family confirmed her death to media outlets, stating she "passed away last night surrounded by family at the hospital. She was so loved." The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Ray gained public attention in 2016 after being photographed vacationing with musician Justin Bieber in Hawaii, though the nature and duration of their relationship was not formally confirmed by either party. She built a career as a social media personality and fashion entrepreneur, launching the swimwear brand Sahara Ray Swim and accumulating a significant Instagram following. She was the daughter of legendary Australian surfer Tony Ray and spent much of her childhood traveling between Australia, California, and Hawaii.

In April 2024, Ray revealed that she had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune neurological disorder, following a serious car accident. The condition left her partially paralyzed from the upper thighs downward, and she was temporarily wheelchair-bound. In a TikTok video, she described being unable to walk at all during her recovery. According to medical sources, Guillain-Barré syndrome occurs when the body's immune system attacks peripheral nerves, causing weakness, numbness, or paralysis; it can be triggered by acute trauma such as a motor vehicle accident.

Ray welcomed her daughter, Snow, in January 2026 and shared updates about motherhood on social media. Her final Instagram post, shared in July 2026, featured photos of her daughter with the caption "My whole heart 🤍 baby Snow." She was also romantically linked to musician Mod Sun, whom she was seen with at a Los Angeles fashion show in November 2023 and again in June 2024.

Friends and followers mourned her passing on social media. Close friend Becky Hearn posted throwback photos and wrote, "Sahara, a pure one with a very big heart. My heart is broken for you and your family. Rest in peace."
