The world premiere of DC Studios’ “Supergirl” took place on June 22, 2026, at The Plaza at 300 Ashland in Brooklyn, New York, drawing a star-studded red carpet. Lead actress Milly Alcock was joined by co-stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, along with director Craig Gillespie, DC Studios co-head James Gunn, and producer Peter Safran. The film is set to open in U.S. theaters on June 26.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, “Supergirl” is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Ana Nogueira adapted the comic for the big screen. The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
The film’s logline describes the story: “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Alcock addressed the scrutiny that comes with playing a high-profile superhero role, particularly as a woman. “It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,” she said. “We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”
The premiere event saw a number of celebrity attendees, including Blondie singer Debbie Harry, “Summer House” stars Bailey Taylor and Levi Sebree, and Jim Lee, DC’s Chief Creative Officer. Notable industry figures such as screenwriter Ana Nogueira, comic colorist Matt Lopes, and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran and his wife Natalia Safran were also on the red carpet.
