According to industry insider Dusk Golem, there is currently minimal internal desire at Capcom to develop remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6. In a conversation with fans speculating about the company's plans following the upcoming release of Resident Evil: Veronica, Golem stated that while a future remake of Resident Evil 5 remains possible due to fan demand, the development team is presently more interested in other projects.
Golem noted that among Capcom's current priorities, a remake of Resident Evil Revelations generates significantly more enthusiasm within the studio than reimagining either Resident Evil 5 or 6. He also dismissed the common assumption that Capcom intends to eventually remake every major title in the Resident Evil franchise. According to him, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 4 were driven by genuine developer passion, whereas projects like Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Resident Evil Zero, and a second remake of the original Resident Evil were influenced by persistent fan pressure.
"I think that a remake of Resident Evil 5 will eventually appear due to high fan demand, but right now, as far as I know, there is no strong desire inside Capcom to work on that particular game. The team has other projects they find more interesting," Golem shared. He added, "As far as I've heard, the company is currently more interested in a remake of Resident Evil Revelations than in reimagining Resident Evil 5 or 6. Nobody is eager to work on those last two right now."
The insider also outlined a leaked five-year release roadmap for the Resident Evil series: Resident Evil Requiem in 2026 (with potential DLC arriving after Veronica), Resident Evil: Veronica in 2027, a remake of Resident Evil 0 in 2028 (subject to possible delays due to a development restart), Resident Evil 10 in 2029/2030, and a remake of the original Resident Evil in 2030/2031.
While no official statement from Capcom has been released, Dusk Golem's track record as an insider lends weight to the report. The information suggests that Capcom is strategically prioritizing certain remakes and new entries over others, guided by both developer interest and fan demand.
