HMD has launched the Nokia 2360 Flip, a clamshell feature phone designed for seniors and students, featuring remote family management and emergency safety tools. The device's primary feature is the Family Assist app, which allows designated family members to remotely configure and manage the phone via Android or iOS. Through the app, relatives can add contacts, adjust volume levels, set daily reminders, and manage emergency settings without requiring physical access to the device or a mobile data connection—all commands are transmitted via SMS.
The phone includes a dedicated physical SOS button on the rear panel that, when pressed for three seconds, automatically dials a pre-set primary emergency contact and sends text alerts to up to five additional pre-programmed numbers. Child-focused features include School Mode, which restricts the device to the clock and emergency calls, a contact whitelist, and the option to block individual applications, all protected by a Family PIN.
Hardware specifications reflect a traditional entry-level feature phone: a 2.8-inch QVGA main display (320 x 240 pixels), a 1.77-inch QQVGA external screen (160 x 128 pixels), a removable 1,450mAh battery, a basic QVGA camera with LED flash, FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and 4MB of internal storage expandable to 32GB via microSD. The device weighs 121 grams and measures 111.85 x 55.56 x 18.95mm, with reported standby time of up to 15 days and talk time of up to 27.5 hours.
A significant limitation is that the Nokia 2360 Flip supports only 2G connectivity—specifically GSM 900/1800MHz networks with dual SIM capability—and does not support 4G LTE. This restriction will render the device unusable in regions where telecom operators have decommissioned their 2G networks, a growing number of markets worldwide. The phone runs HMD's Series 30+ operating system and will be available in three color options: Charcoal, Burgundy Red, and Teal. HMD has not yet disclosed official pricing or regional release schedules.
Topics
Why This Matters
The Nokia 2360 Flip targets seniors and students with managed safety features but relies exclusively on 2G GSM networks that many operators are decommissioning. Users in markets with completed 2G shutdowns will find the device non-functional; those in regions still operating 2G networks face an uncertain timeline for continued service. The SMS-based remote management requires no mobile data, reducing connectivity dependencies for supervised users.
