Glee Revival Confirmed at Disney+ and Hulu with Lea Michele

Disney+ and Hulu have officially greenlit a reboot of Glee, the Emmy-winning musical dramedy that premiered on Fox in 2009 and concluded in 2015 after six seasons. The revival will be produced by 20th Television, with Ryan Murphy confirmed as a key creative force. Murphy recently completed a reboot script with collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, marking the show's return 11 years after its original finale.

Lea Michele, who played ambitious singer Rachel Berry across all six seasons, is returning to reprise her iconic role. Variety confirmed the news through multiple sources, with one insider stating, "She's in. It's still early-ish days, but it feels good and we're happy to get the band back together." Castmates Heather Morris (Brittany Pierce) and Chord Overstreet (Sam Evans) have hinted at their involvement through social media posts.

Murphy stated in an Entertainment Tonight interview that he has been in contact with approximately 10 original cast members, describing their responses as "very enthusiastic." Michele previously told E! News she would eagerly return, saying Glee "holds such a special place in my heart for me." However, some cast members remain uncertain about participation. Chris Colfer acknowledged in an interview with Bustle that rebooting would be challenging following the deaths of three cast members, including Naya Rivera in 2020, but indicated openness to the project.

The original series became a cultural phenomenon, known for its musical covers and its blunt handling of topics including sexuality, race, disability and mental health. Glee's cast overtook The Beatles as the non-solo act with the most Billboard Hot 100 appearances, and its music currently averages between 4 and 4.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The series won six Emmy Awards, including directing and supporting acting honours. No premiere date or full casting details have been announced.
