Surabaya Mayor Participates in 2026 Economic Census as Public Support Initiative

Surabaya's city government demonstrated its backing for the 2026 Economic Census conducted by Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) by having Mayor Eri Cahyadi participate as a respondent. On the evening of June 17, 2026, three census enumerators visited the mayor's official residence on Jalan Sedap Malam, accompanied by Surabaya BPS Head Arrief Chandra Setiawan. The census collects comprehensive household economic data including family members, assets, and possessions to determine each household's economic level and inform government policy decisions.

Mayor Cahyadi emphasized the importance of accurate and regularly updated economic data for effective government targeting of assistance programs. He explained that the census results categorize households into economic deciles, enabling more transparent and precise distribution of aid. The mayor expressed gratitude to BPS for conducting the census on his household and urged Surabaya residents to cooperate fully with census enumerators, noting that periodic data updates are essential for ensuring government programs reach the intended beneficiaries.

The 2026 Economic Census in Surabaya encompasses businesses of all sizes. According to BPS Head Setiawan, the census targets approximately 1,402 large enterprises with revenues exceeding Rp50 billion, around 13,000 medium enterprises, and roughly 490,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). To execute this large-scale operation, BPS Surabaya deployed approximately 1,980 enumerators and supervisors. Data collection began on May 1, 2026, with door-to-door enumeration scheduled from June 15 through August 31, 2026.
