New accessories include a Bluetooth page-turn remote and magnetic case with integrated buttons.
Quick Facts
- Completely redesigned Kindle lineup launched
- Bezel-free flush-front display introduced across all models
- New reverse stack display construction debuted
- Capacitive touch technology with haptic dead zone implemented
- Five new colors introduced

Amazon unveiled a completely redesigned Kindle family on October 1, 2026, introducing the most significant physical redesign in years across its entry-level, Paperwhite, and Colorsoft models. The centerpiece of the redesign is a flush-front display architecture that removes the traditional raised bezel, creating a seamless edge-to-edge reading surface. Amazon engineered the solution using capacitive touch technology and haptics to create a "dead zone" that prevents accidental screen touches when readers grip the device—the system detects finger placement and adjusts the touch-sensitive area accordingly.
The new 6-inch base Kindle measures 6.8 millimeters thick and weighs 140 grams, making it the thinnest and lightest in the lineup. It opens books 30 percent faster than its predecessor, offers up to 6 weeks of battery life, and starts at $149.99 with 16GB of storage in Ube (purple) and Graphite. Amazon is also introducing an aluminum-backed variant with 32GB of storage for $189.99 in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green. The new Kindle Paperwhite, priced from $199.99, is thinner and lighter while retaining waterproofing and adding a larger display with the highest contrast ratio in the Paperwhite series; it offers up to 12 weeks of battery life. A Signature Edition with aluminum housing, 32GB storage, and auto-adjusting front light costs $249.99. The Kindle Colorsoft, featuring paper-like color without tablet glare, starts at $289.99 for the standard 16GB model and $319.99 for the 32GB Signature Edition in Graphite and Fig.
The redesign introduces five new colors across the lineup: Ube (a rich purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite, and Fig—with Fig making its e-reader debut. The color now wraps seamlessly from front to back, visible whether the device is on display or in a bag. All devices use a newly designed reverse stack display construction, described as a first for the e-reader category, and feature edge-to-edge color. The base Kindle housing uses recycled materials with a 100% recycled cobalt battery; the aluminum versions use 80% recycled aluminum with a matte finish.
Amazon also introduced new accessories, including the Kindle Click, a $34.99 Bluetooth remote with physical page-turn buttons and brightness adjustment controls—reviving a feature from earlier Kindle models. A magnetic case with integrated page-turn buttons is also available. The company reported that Kindle has seen double-digit growth globally for three consecutive years, with 720 billion pages read in 2025 alone.
The new base Kindle and its aluminum version are available immediately in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Australia. The Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft models are available for preorder across the same regions. Kids versions of all three models are also available, priced from $179.99 to $299.99, each including a child-friendly cover and 12-month Amazon Kids+ subscription. Notably, the display technology itself remains unchanged from the previous generation—both monochrome and Colorsoft screens retain the same pixel density and color characteristics as before.
Why This Matters
Amazon's Kindle redesign affects the installed base of e-reader users globally through hardware availability across 19 regions, with new form factors and accessories altering user interaction patterns. The thinner design, bezel-free display, and revised color options may influence purchasing decisions in the competitive e-reader market, while the reintroduced Bluetooth page-turn remote and magnetic case expand the device accessory ecosystem at measurable price points ($34.99–$319.99). The company's reported triple-year double-digit growth (720 billion pages read in 2025) establishes the baseline for measuring whether the redesign sustains or accelerates this trend.
