Six Students Arrested After Viral One-on-One Duel Videos in Cianjur

Police in Cianjur, West Java, arrested six high school and vocational students on Saturday, 27 June 2026, following an investigation into viral videos showing one-on-one duels circulating on social media. The students, identified as IT, SH, MK, UJ, RD, and KS, came from schools in Cibeber and Campaka districts. Police also detained one graduate who appeared in the videos. According to Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Alexander Yurikho Hadi, the duels were staged in a forest area on the border between the two districts and recorded for social media content.

The students admitted to participating in the duels after being repeatedly challenged through social media messages by students from rival schools. They agreed to meet in the forest location to resolve these challenges, which were then filmed and shared online. The videos gained significant traction, with average viewership reaching approximately 100,000 views per video and hundreds of comments on the Instagram account @Alfsth037allbase.

Police stated that the students claimed they were following a trend prevalent among young people on social media. However, investigators indicated the specific nature of this trend is still being examined. One of the detained students, 16-year-old IT, explained that he and his friends repeatedly received challenges from students at an SMK vocational school in Campaka district via social media messages, ultimately accepting one of these challenges.

The police announced that the students will be processed according to child protection laws, with criminal charges to be pursued if evidence of criminal elements is found. However, authorities emphasised that the primary focus will be on rehabilitation and guidance rather than punitive measures. The students' schools and parents were called to collect them after questioning.

Police Chief Hadi appealed to parents, schools, and community leaders to strengthen supervision and engagement with young people to prevent similar incidents. He emphasised the collective responsibility of society to guide students away from negative trends and influences on social media, with the goal of fostering a "golden generation" of youth.
