Lauren Bennett, 36, the British singer known for her vocals on LMFAO's 2011 hit "Party Rock Anthem," died by suicide on May 29 in woodland near her home in Meopham, Kent. An inquest held on October 30 ruled her death as suicide by hanging. Assistant coroner Jyoti Gill found that Bennett had been in the care of "special mental health services" and had experienced an "ongoing struggle" with mental health since a crisis in January 2026, during which she was admitted to hospital and did not sleep for several days.
Bennett had been diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome, an inherited genetic condition that can cause anxiety, mood instability, and depression. The inquest heard that she reacted poorly to prescribed medication and reported symptoms of distress related to its effects. Days before her death, she had attended a mental health appointment where doctors noted she appeared anxious and was suffering from insomnia. On the morning of May 29, she told her husband Kenny Wormald she was going for a walk around 9 a.m. When she did not return after several hours and did not respond to multiple calls and texts, Wormald and her father Richard used the Find My iPhone app to locate her phone and found her body in nearby woodland. Handwritten farewell notes were later discovered at her home. Toxicology tests found no alcohol or illicit drugs in her system.
Bennett began her career at age 17 with the girl group Paradiso Girls, whose 2009 single "Patron Tequila" charted in the US and Canada. She later featured on "Party Rock Anthem," which topped charts in the UK, US, Canada, Ireland, and Australia and has been named the fifth most successful song of all time by Billboard. She also joined the girl group G.R.L. in 2013, with whom she released music including "Ugly Heart" and collaborated with Pitbull on "Wild Wild Love." Bennett was married to American reality television star and actor Kenny Wormald in 2019 and they have a daughter together. The couple moved back to Kent from Los Angeles a few years after their marriage.
Following news of her death in July, G.R.L. released a statement remembering Bennett as having a "beautiful spirit" that "touched so many lives." Her father Richard described his daughter as having lived an "amazing life" despite her struggles. The inquest was attended by Bennett's brother, step-brother, and sister-in-law.
