Thai Parliamentarian Phawut Ready for DSI Investigation into Forex Allegation, Party Says

Rak Chonok Srinok and Rangsiman Rom, list MPs from the Pheu Thai Party, stated on June 18 that party members are prepared to cooperate with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) should evidence link MP Phawut Phongthaiyapanu to an unauthorized foreign exchange (Forex) trading network. The statement came after reports that the DSI was preparing to release names of politicians and entertainment figures connected to an illegal investment and currency trading scheme, following a major raid that seized significant assets and uncovered financial trails linking multiple individuals.

Rangsiman emphasized that Phawut should be considered a valuable resource given his expertise in financial platforms and the finance sector, and could help clarify issues related to the matter. The party affirmed that this is not a political game or vendetta, but rather an opportunity for transparent investigation. Rangsiman noted that the party has no authority to direct state agencies and can only offer cooperation. He acknowledged that details remain unclear pending an official statement from Justice Minister Rutthapol Naovaratne, and the party awaits formal details about whether Phawut's name will actually appear in charges.

When asked whether the matter represents political maneuvering to distract from government issues, particularly the controversial TH-AI Passport project with which Phawut has been involved, Rangsiman stated the party's position is to support thorough investigation of all government actions. He argued that allowing corruption to flourish would undermine national integrity and turn state institutions into instruments of organized crime. Rangsiman called for media support in scrutinizing government decisions involving public budgets and ethical governance, emphasizing that any conclusions must be based on evidence and the rule of law.
