Russian Forces Report Control of Two Settlements in Sumy Region

Russia's Defense Ministry reported on May 26 that Russian troops had taken control of two communities in Ukraine's Sumy Region during the preceding 24-hour period. According to the ministry statement, Battlegroup North units secured the settlements of Zapselye and Ryasnoye through what it described as active operations in the ongoing special military operation.

The ministry provided casualty figures across multiple frontline areas. It reported that Ukrainian forces sustained approximately 1,075 total casualties across all engagement lines over the past day. Battlegroup North reported inflicting roughly 195 casualties on Ukrainian troops and destroying two armored combat vehicles in its sector, which spans areas in the Sumy and Kharkov regions near settlements including Pisarevka, Ivolzhanskoye, Obody, Bugayevka, and Ternovaya.

Battlegroup West reported more than 190 Ukrainian casualties and destruction of two US-made armored combat vehicles in its operational area covering positions near settlements in the Kharkov Region and Donetsk People's Republic. Battlegroup South reported over 85 Ukrainian casualties and destruction of three armored combat vehicles. Battlegroup Center reported over 310 casualties, Battlegroup East reported more than 240 casualties, and Battlegroup Dnepr reported approximately 55 casualties during the same period.

The figures provided by Russia's Defense Ministry represent claims made by Russian military authorities regarding the ongoing conflict. The ministry detailed losses of equipment including tanks, armored personnel carriers, motor vehicles, and artillery pieces across various Ukrainian formations identified as mechanized brigades, motorized infantry brigades, air assault brigades, marine infantry brigades, and territorial defense brigades.
