Tucker Carlson Declares He Will No Longer Support the Republican Party

Longtime conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has announced he will no longer support the Republican Party, breaking with the political affiliation he defended for decades as one of Fox News Channel's most popular hosts. In an interview on the "Can't Be Censored" podcast late last week, Carlson stated, "There's no chance I would support the Republican Party," while adding, "Not gonna support the Democratic Party. I don't know what I'm going to do."

Carlson, who was fired from Fox News in 2023 and has since built a large following on his own podcast, said his disillusionment was supercharged by President Donald Trump's decision to go to war with Iran in February 2026. Carlson had supported Trump in the 2024 presidential election, but after the conflict began, he apologized for backing Trump and for "misleading people," claiming it was unintentional.

He has repeatedly criticized the war as being conducted at the behest of Israel at the expense of American interests. Carlson attacked the Republican Party for failing to represent its own voters and the nation, saying, "They are making decisions on the basis of other criteria, what's best for this company, what's best for Israel, what's best for our donors. That's not just, like, they are off in the wrong direction, like, that is unacceptable, that's treasonous, it's immoral, it can't continue."

"I've been a consistent defender for 35 years of the Republican Party, I mean very consistent defender, but there's no defending this," Carlson said. "So no, I'm out. And if I'm out, then I think a lot of other people are out." His comments come ahead of the November midterm elections and signal a significant shift among some conservative voices regarding the party's direction.
