Real Madrid sign Yan Diomande for €120M from RB Leipzig

Real Madrid have completed the transfer of 19-year-old Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for approximately €120 million, with the deal potentially rising to €135 million including performance-based add-ons. The transfer represents a record signing for Real Madrid, surpassing previous club record transfers including Jude Bellingham and Eden Hazard.

Diomande had an exceptional 2025/26 Bundesliga season with RB Leipzig, recording 12 to 15 goals and 8 to 11 assists across 36 appearances, and winning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award. His performances also earned him selection for Ivory Coast's 2026 World Cup campaign, where he created 11 chances across four appearances before the team's elimination by Norway in the round of 32. The teenager was previously with Spanish second-division club Leganés before joining Leipzig in mid-2025.

Diomande attracted significant interest from multiple European clubs. Paris Saint-Germain reached a personal agreement with the player but withdrew from negotiations, citing disproportionate transfer demands. PSG officials stated through L'Équipe that they would not "break the bank" for a player with potential given the excessive fee. Liverpool and Manchester City also pursued the winger, while Barcelona made initial enquiries but abandoned their interest after Leipzig's firm stance on a minimum €100 million valuation.

Leipzig initially rejected Madrid's opening bids at approximately €100 million before accepting an offer reported between €115 million and €120 million fixed, with additional performance variables. The deal includes a five-year contract for Diomande. This transfer is part of Real Madrid's broader summer activity under new coach José Mourinho, following the signings of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva, and Denzel Dumfries. Madrid remain in negotiations for Manchester City midfielder Rodri, according to ESPN reporting.
