Chasing a target of 132, New Zealand found itself in early trouble at 26-3 after a poor powerplay. A brilliant 101-run partnership between Izzy Sharp and Brooke Halliday turned the match around. Sharp top-scored with a career-best 62 off 43 balls, while Halliday remained unbeaten on 41 as New Zealand reached 132-4 with 10 balls to spare.
“What a special knock from Sharp,” New Zealand captain Melie Kerr said. “She has the potential to be one of New Zealand’s best ever and the best in the world.”
Earlier, Scotland was put in to bat and made a strong start, reaching 45-0 in the powerplay thanks to opener Darcey Carter, who scored 72 not out off 37 balls. However, New Zealand’s bowlers pulled things back in the latter stages, with Sophie Devine taking two wickets in her first over and Kerr finishing with 3-17, including a double-wicket maiden in the 19th over.
