NBC has announced its 2026 fall television lineup, introducing four new series while canceling nine existing programs. The network’s strategic overhaul includes two dramas and two comedies featuring high-profile actors such as Peter Krause, David Boreanaz, Téa Leoni, and Jake Johnson, alongside acclaimed guest stars like Jamie Lee Curtis.
Among the new shows is "Line of Fire," a drama about a family of law enforcement agents navigating personal and professional conflicts as they work across multiple federal agencies. Starring Peter Krause in his first role since leaving "911" and Hope Davis, the series is produced by Josh Safran, Ben Spector, and "Today" host Jenna Bush Hager. Another drama, a contemporary reboot of "The Rockford Files," stars David Boreanaz as James Rockford, a wrongly imprisoned private investigator working in Los Angeles, with Jacki Weaver also in the cast.
On the comedy front, "Newlyweds" is a later-in-life sitcom starring Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, with Jamie Lee Curtis appearing as a recurring guest star and producer. Additionally, "Sunset P.I." is a comedic take on the Los Angeles private eye genre, featuring Jake Johnson, Jane Levy, and Keith David. The series is written by former "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" producers Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, with the first episode directed by Akiva Schaffer of The Lonely Island.
NBC has renewed several fan favorites for the fall, including "Chicago Fire" (Season 15), "Chicago Med" (Season 12), "Chicago P.D." (Season 14), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (Season 28), "Happy's Place" (Season 3), "St. Denis Medical" (Season 3), and "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins" (Season 2).
However, nine shows were canceled, including notable titles such as "The Kelly Clarkson Show," "Law & Order: Organized Crime," "Stumble," "Brilliant Minds," "The Hunting Party," "Karamo," "The Steve Wilkos Show," "Access Hollywood," and "Access Daily." NBCUniversal’s Jeff Bader, president of program planning strategy, cited a "very tight schedule" as the reason for the cuts, adding that some beloved shows "just didn’t make the cut."
Topics
Why This Matters
NBC’s 2026 fall lineup reshapes prime-time viewing, affecting advertisers, streaming strategies, and audience habits. The cancellations of syndicated staples like *The Kelly Clarkson Show* and *Access Hollywood* signal a broader shift toward scripted content, while new pilots starring established actors indicate where the network is placing its bets. For media buyers and content distributors, these changes directly impact inventory availability and demand for live sports and event programming. Consumers should note that beloved long-running shows may disappear from linear TV, migrating to Peacock or being replaced entirely.
