Truck Driver Dies After Vehicle Overturns on BR-251 Highway in Salinas, Brazil

A fatal accident on Brazil's BR-251 highway claimed the life of a truck driver early Tuesday morning, June 23, when his vehicle overturned on a steep embankment near Salinas in Minas Gerais state. The truck, over 25 meters long and carrying approximately 20 tonnes of sand, veered off the road at kilometre 282 near a curve and plunged roughly six metres down the embankment at approximately 1 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters from the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais (CBMMG) found the truck's cabin severely crushed with the driver partially trapped in the wreckage. Medical personnel from SAMU (mobile emergency care service) had already confirmed the driver's death before firefighters arrived.
