- Merit-based mobile gaming championship announced
- Six-club competitive format introduced
- Open grassroots qualification pathway established
- Mahi Clutchers club formed

Google Play and NODWIN Gaming have announced Google Play Arena, a national mobile gaming championship launching in India with six games, six professional clubs, and open grassroots qualification. The initiative, announced on October 23, 2026, aims to create a structured pathway from amateur play to professional competition, mirroring the organizational structure of traditional mainstream sports.
The championship spans six game titles: Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Free Fire MAX, Moba Legends: 5v5!, Real Cricket, Chess (Chess.com), and EA SPORTS FC Mobile. Six clubs will compete across these titles: five established Indian esports organizations—Team S8UL, GodLike Esports, Orangutan Gaming, Revenant XSpark, and Team Apex Gaming—plus Mahi Clutchers, a new club fielded by cricket legend MS Dhoni. Mahi Clutchers will be built entirely through open qualifiers, offering undiscovered grassroots talent direct access to professional competition under Dhoni's banner.
Google Play Arena eliminates financial barriers to entry. Registration is free and available to players aged 18 and older through the Google Play Store. There are no entry fees and no pay-to-play mechanics; success depends solely on competitive performance and merit. Registration opened on October 23, with online qualifiers scheduled in the coming weeks. Top performers from the qualifier phase will earn roster spots on one of the six professional clubs to compete at the Grand Finale, scheduled for December 19–20, 2026.
The championship represents a structural shift in how digital storefronts approach competitive gaming and user engagement. By embedding tournament infrastructure directly into the Google Play Store, the platform bypasses traditional third-party tournament platforms and integrates competitive pathways into the app ecosystem itself. NODWIN Gaming leads conceptualization, planning, partnerships, execution, community management, and event production.
Google and NODWIN Gaming frame the initiative as an expansion of India's recognized position as a major global mobile gaming community. The country fielded its first official gaming contingent to the Asian Games and has generated significant local gaming creator talent. By offering a recognized professional club structure, a grassroots-to-professional advancement ladder, and a merit-based competition stage, Google Play Arena aims to formalize India's mobile gaming talent ecosystem and provide the competitive infrastructure that mainstream sports enjoy.
Why This Matters
Google Play Arena establishes a formal competitive pathway for mobile gaming in India, eliminating entry fees and creating measurable advancement routes from grassroots qualifiers to professional club rosters. The structure affects the Indian esports ecosystem (6 established orgs + 1 new club), talent mobility (merit-based selection), and app-store monetization (tournament infrastructure embedded in Play Store). Grand Finale and qualifier schedules set near-term engagement metrics; professional club roster composition will reflect qualifier performance and MS Dhoni's brand involvement in esports.
