State Department Expands Trump Commemorative Passports to 27 Agencies Nationwide

The U.S. State Department announced on July 30 that it is expanding access to limited-edition commemorative passports featuring President Donald Trump's image to 27 passport agencies across the country, beginning August 8. The passports, dubbed "Patriot Passports," were designed to commemorate America's 250th anniversary and mark the first time a living sitting president has appeared on an official U.S. passport.

The commemorative passport design includes Trump's portrait on an interior page, with a gold imprimatur of his signature beneath it. One page features Trump's inaugural portrait surrounded by text from the Declaration of Independence, while another depicts the founding fathers signing the document. The cover reverses the standard layout, displaying "United States of America" in bold gold print at the top and "Passport" at the bottom, with a small gold laminate American flag bearing the number 250 encircled by stars on the back cover.

Initially available only at the Washington, D.C., passport office for in-person applicants, the State Department cited "overwhelming demand" and "extraordinary public interest" as reasons for the nationwide expansion. The agency announced it would make an additional 250,000 copies available to the public. Passport offices in Centennial, Colorado; Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; New Orleans; New York; and Stamford, Connecticut, will offer the Trump passports at one-day special events starting August 8, with additional offices hosting events in the following weeks.

Applicants must schedule in-person appointments to receive the commemorative passport. Those who do not wish to obtain the Trump-featured version can request a traditional passport design or, at the Washington, D.C., office, opt for a large-format passport book with 52 pages using the existing standard design. Standard passport application fees and processing times apply. The commemorative passport remains a limited-edition option rather than a replacement for the default U.S. passport.

The passports represent one of several recent efforts to increase Trump's visibility on official U.S. government items and buildings. The U.S. Mint has begun producing a gold-finished commemorative coin featuring Trump's portrait celebrating the nation's founding, and the administration has pursued efforts to place Trump's signature on new U.S. paper currency—both firsts for a sitting president. Trump's name and image have also been added to other federal buildings and initiatives, though some additions have faced legal challenges.
